Latest from the Pastor
It is clear that God is working in and through us at La Habra Christian Church! I continue to be encouraged by the ways that I see this happening in people all around His church! I see passion to spread the Gospel with neighbors near and far. I see a willingness to disciple and be discipled. I see enthusiasm about new ideas and new pathways in his Kingdom work. I see a willingness to be challenged and overcome adversity together in Christ! We’d love to invite you to join in this journey together as we “abandon all for the sake of his call.” May God bless you as you give yourselves to him in life and ministry. Hope to see you soon!
I hope the new year has been good for you so far. So many things to look forward to this year. However, Time Magazine predicts that 2020 will be a year of friction, from the Presidential Elections, US-China trade, climate change politics, to world conflicts in Iran, Latin America, and India. Also, it seems like nobody in the media will mention that the Gospel will once again be under attack, from inside the church (prosperity gospel, Methodist schism) and outside (politics of church vs state).
I believe the best way to stand firm and shine a light on the true Gospel is to really know what the Word says. We cannot allow culture to dictate to us what is right and wrong (even though culture has been right many times). The Gospel hasn't changed through all the cultural rifts. But in many times in history, the Church has changed culture by remaining steadfast on what God teaches in his Word and showing practical love to the world.
Can the Church still change the world? Can we, at La Habra Christian Church? It took 12 Disciples to change the world. If you grew up with a Catholic background, you may see them as super-Christians, that Jesus must've chosen them because he knew they would become spiritual giants. On the contrary, "God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, the weak things to shame the strong...so that no one may boast before him." (1 Cor 1:27)
For the next 2 months, we will embark on a new sermon series "Ordinary People, Extraordinary God" and see how each of the 12 disciples were people just like us, with the same habits and shortcomings. However, just as God used these ordinary disciples in mighty ways, can he use us too? Can the same God who used 12 ordinary people to change the world use us at LHCC to change our community?
Let's examine this together, as we pray, as we discuss, as we fast, as we gather. Let's practice what the Gospel is supposed to look like, so when the world looks at us, we will be a light in the dark.
We're not just a local church; we're a movement of God in this community. Let's get excited!
